Don't Be a Sucker

There’s a sucker born every minute. That cliché is very true; it could be said more true in the world of gambling probably. Gambling is the easiest way to make money and lose money.

Those who see suckers out of greenhorns in gambling apply different methodologies. They could apply the minimal skill method, the moderate skill method or the skilled method. The minimal skilled method of cheating are also for greenhorns when in comes to cheating to win.

This article will specifically discuss the minimal skilled way of cheating. However, doesn’t mean that this article discusses it, means it condones cheating. This article aims to help those people who are new in poker to avoid getting scammed out of their money.

The minimal cheating methods are the easiest to do because they only involve peeking at the cards, shorting the pot or miscalling the hands. These methods require no manipulation but only sheer nerve or guts. These kinds of cheaters are very irritating because they would only claim that they had an honest mistake.

To prevent players from abusing “their honest mistake” privileges, a “Cards speak” rule should be followed. This means that any verbal thing that the player says about his card is not binding. This rule is also used mostly in a showdown, it is used to declare high-low split. The players will reveal their hands so that no one may be bluffed.

A player my have a bad hand but he claims that it is a full house in hopes of bluffing the opponent. However the opponent has the rights to see the card, it may still be considered an honest mistake but to prevent any further commotions, the player must have the courtesy to leave. If it really was an honest mistake, he will still be welcomed on another game night, however if it seems that he blatantly cheated, he will no longer come back.

Another way to cheat with minimal skills is called the check copping. The player who has folded aims not to stand up during the game and will offer to be the tender of the pot, delivering the chips and stacking them too. He will then simply palm a chip. Some players will even use an odorless adhesive. To prevent this from happening simply follow the rules, don’t be so lenient. The player should only touch the pot during a showdown and the player will place his chips in the center of the pot in a proper way. He will not throw the chips as this causes confusion.

Another way to cheat is confusing the opponents in draw poker. The player will throw his 2 cards in the pile of discarded cards to prevent it from being counted. He will then ask for 3 cards. He not only gets an extra card but he can also use this card when he sees it fit.

These may be only minimal ways out of cheating your opponent, but always remember cheating is still bad. Winning your way out of cheating is not fair.
